The 2006 Headbone Award, January 11, 2007

With seventy-seven artists featured in eight exhibitions in 2006, Headbones, The Drawers decided to celebrate this diverse selection of excellence by asking all of the artists to vote for their three favorite artists from The Drawers. The artists were asked not to vote for themselves.

The votes came in by email, phone, folded slips of paper and whispered asides prompted by subtle reminders. An eighty-seven percent voter turn-out was achieved. The greatest testament to the work contained within Headbones Drawers was realized when the votes were tallied and fifty-nine artists received votes

Ben Woolfitt from Toronto was invited to present the winner of the 2006 Headbone Award to Julie Oakes. Julie received the adjacent award with exuberant congratulations and support of her peers.

The second place prize, A Solo Exhibition at Headbones Gallery in November, 2007 with catalog, was proudly awarded to Gord Smith, RCA. For Gord's exhibition, he has decided to exhibit all of the artwork that he will be creating in his seventieth year. The title will be "Gord Smith - The Seventieth Year."

The third place prize, a Headbones, 2006 Anthology and seventy-five individual artist catalogs from every artist featured in 2006, was awarded to Harold Klunder. Harold was in Berlin during the ceremony.

Congratulations to the winners and all the artists featured in 2006 at Headbones, The Drawers. Also, thanks to Gord Smith for creating the Headbone Award and the  generous support of Artcast Inc. for casting the award.
